Hi
Stonehedge Families!
The
thermometer may say 90, but the calendar says “end of September”, so I’ll say
“Happy Fall!” Our first few weeks have flown by. The library has been a flurry
of back-to-school activity. We’ve reviewed library procedures and expectations
and talked about how to treat our books (“like a baby”). We’ve reviewed the
dangers that water bottles and other “Backpack of Doom” items pose to library
books and the students have been taking items out and bringing them home. We’re
off to a great start!
October is
PARP (“Pick a Reading Partner”) month. It’s a great time to set up a regular
“reading for fun” schedule with your kids. As little as 15 minutes a day does
so much to boost your child’s vocabulary and fluency. Our awesome PTA will be
hosting the Scholastic Book Fair on October 3rd, 4th
& 5th from 3-7pm in the Gold Lobby. We will also be having Open Library Nights on October 10th
and 24th from 6:30-7:30. This is a time you can bring your
family to the library “AT NIGHT” to browse the shelves, read for a while and
even check out extra library books.
As a kick
off for PARP, the PTA is bringing graphic novelist Frank Cammuso to Stonehedge
on Friday September 29th. Mr. Cammuso was a political cartoonist for
the Syracuse Post Standard. He also teaches at Syracuse University. His graphic
novel series “The Misadventures of Salem Hyde” and “Knights of the Lunch Table”
are already popular choices in our library…just wait until the kids have seen
him in person. Stay tuned for pix!
Until next
time,
Don’t forget
to “Read4Fun”!
